CIRCUIT ZOLDER TO ORGANISE UCI BMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2019

CIRCUIT ZOLDER TO ORGANISE UCI BMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2019

BMX Club Circuit Zolder and Circuit Zolder seize the opportunity to bring the BMX event to Limburg, for the second time in four years. In doing so, Circuit Zolder is further establishing itself as a major player within the BMX world and are bringing the sixth world championship in its rich cycling history to the circuit.
The biggest BMX event in the world is also a major boost for the hospitality sector in Limburg, with at least 100,000 overnight stays during the last week of July. Between 23 and 28 July 2019, the world's top riders will compete for the world titles at the Lotto BMX track.

The timing is roughly the same as for the UCI BMX World Championships in 2015 in Heusden Zolder. Riders, staff, and visitors then headed off to Heusden Zolder towards the end of July, in what was also a year before an Olympic Games.

"That's quite significant, because in that year the riders are all very eager to earn points in order to qualify for the Games. That's also clear from the number of registrations," Cycling Manager Marc Wauters speaks from experience. "Originally, we intended to organise a World Cup round in Zolder each year for five years in a row, starting in 2017, topping it off by again organising the World Championships in 2021. But at the request of the UCI itself, we brought that forwards to 2019," explains Wauters. "We were quite happy to take on the extra work, considering that these six events – five World Cup rounds and the World Championships – will provide an enormous financial boost for our province, including over 100,000 overnight stays."

The club management is also very enthusiastic. "The UCI BMX World Championships is the highest attainable within the world of BMX sport. The opportunity to organise this event for the second time so soon after the first is another dream come true." Organising the event for the first time in 2015 gave our club an enormous boost in terms of coaching as well as membership and infrastructure. "The experience we gained in 2015 will also prove very valuable for the 2019 UCI BMX World Championships."

Sven Pribylla, CEO of Circuit Zolder, is also very enthusiastic. "We wish to once again extend a very warm welcome to all our UCI Cycling friends, the participants, and the many supporters coming to Zolder. Circuit Zolder is a facility that offers endless opportunities. Once again, we are aiming for a constructive, multi-year partnership with the focus on providing a total experience. Of course, this is only possible with the help of our partners."
