In 2014, the Belgian Masters at Circuit Zolder will be hosting an international series as the wonderful cherry on the cake of the upcoming motorsport season. The Blancpain GT Series will be pulling into the Limburg race track on 11 and 12 October as the penultimate meeting of the season, just a few weeks before moving on to Baku for the finale.
Racing exclusive GT cars at Circuit Zolder has been a longstanding tradition. In 2014 too, the hordes of fans of these resplendent racing cars will be able to enjoy the spectacle being laid on. Following the phenomenal success of the Blancpain Endurance Series, SRO, with the support of renowned watch manufacturer Blancpain, has decided to launch a GT Series combined endurance and sprint races.
Under its new name, Circuit Zolder continues to remain a crowd-pulling fixture for the SRO-promoted series. “Zolder has played an important part in the history of SRO’s various international GT series,” commented Stephane Ratel, founder and CEO of the SRO Motorsports Group. “Having hosted rounds of almost every series we have promoted, I am delighted that we will be returning there with our new Blancpain GT Series. The crowds normally flock to the circuit for the final race weekend of the year, and we hope that 2014 will be no different.”
”We are of course delighted with the calendar of the Blancpain GT Series, that goes without saying. SRO Motorsports Group and Circuit Zolder have been working together for many years, something we are very much looking forward to continuing in the future”, says Circuit Zolder’s General Manager Thierry Deflandre.
"That's excellent news ", says recently crowned FIA GT Series winner and Audi works driver Laurens Vanthoor. "Zolder deserves an international meeting of rank and stature. Speaking for myself, it's good news that I'll be defending my title in my own backyard, quite literally. Racing before a home crowd is always a great motivator."
The dates for this event are 11 and 12 October, during the Belgian Masters, which is also the weekend of the Belgian Racing Car Championship finals. On the Blancpain GT Series agenda are two hard fought 60-minute races. So it goes without saying that spectators can look forward to a lot of bang for their proverbial buck again. Needless to add that the Belgian Masters races also count towards the Belcar 5000 2014!
